Steven Ferdman/WireImageThe war between Cardi B and Nicki Minaj continues: Cardi's now clapping back at Nicki’s accusations that the "Bodak Yellow" rapper illegally paid her way to success.
Following the incident during the Harper's Bazaar New York Fashion Week party where Cardi allegedly threw a shoe at Nicki, the Queen rapper accused Cardi or her team of playing radio stations to play her music, a practice known as "payola." Specifically, on her Beats One show, Nicki said Cardi “built her career off of sympathy and payola.”
Cardi responded Wednesday night, posting a list of this year’s top selling hip-hop albums with her Invasion of Privacy at number three, with sales of 1.5 million units. She captioned the post, “NUMBERS DONT F***IN LIE.”
The new mother also posted a video of herself performing her breakout hit “Bodak Yellow” in 2016, before it was released. She commented. “7/29/2016! NO LABEL, NO RADIO PLAY, FRESH OUT OF LOVE AND HIP HOP, ONLY 200K IN MY BANK ACCOUNT, MY FIRST TOUR !!!"
She continued, "Nobody can make you feel like you cheated yourself or you don’t deserve to be where you at when you KNOW YOU WORKED YOURSELF TO THE TOP !!! THANK YOU BARDIGANG ! YOU BEEN HERE SINCE THE GET GO!”
The two rappers from New York City may meet again on October 6 at the BET Hip-Hop Awards in Miami. They are both nominated in the category of Made You Look (Best Hip Hop Style).
